WW2 German Bakelite Winkelspiegel (prism periscope) as used in both Panther & Tiger tank commander’s cupola. Found in the Lisieux area of Normandy several years ago – in as found condition.

Used in the Panther Ausf. A &G (late) which had a cast, low-profile, dome shaped cupola the periscopic optical block was designed to protect the commander from direct blinding injuries caused by shell splinters or bullets destroying the vision block. There was a quick release clamp that enabled the damaged block to be replaced in seconds. This example was manufactured by J. Schutze Messwerk located in Berlin-Oberschoneweide.
