Very rare find from the battlefield a German Rauchsichtzelchen Orange 80 Smoke candle with maker markings and paintwork grenade recovered near the area of the river Oder on the Seelow Heights
This is a very rare find from the battlefield in this condition which is a near complete German Rauchsichtzelchen Orange 80 Smoke candle it is in nice relic condition with original orange paintwork and black stamped maker markings clear to see. The candle is empty and inert and complete with its top cover still in place the can has some holes and splits it has ripped and bent by the force an explosion. The candle can has been well cleaned it still retains some of its original colours and sand it is only lightly rusty but solid and is perfect for display and a rare one for the collection. Recovered near the river Oder at Lebus south of Seelow Heights. The candle comes with A5 laminated information card.
The Battle of the Seelow Heights was part of the Seelow-Berlin Offensive Operation (16 April-2 May 1945). A pitched battle, it was one of the last assaults on large entrenched defensive positions of the Second World War. It was fought over three days, from 16–19 April 1945. Close to one million Soviet soldiers of the 1st Belorussian Front (including 78,556 soldiers of the Polish 1st Army), commanded by Marshal Georgi Zhukov, attacked the position known as the "Gates of Berlin". They were opposed by about 110,000 soldiers of the German 9th Army commanded by General Theodor Busse, as part of the Army Group Vistula.
