This is a rare bit of airframe structure which is very large and very clean and is part of a engine cowling skin airframe panel with lots of its original yellow recognition paintwork.
This substantial piece retains a fair bit of its original grey and green paintwork but with yellow insignia paint as well, still clearly visible and well preserved. The structure which is several parts still riveted together shows evidence of crash impact, having been torn and bent on contact, yet remains solid and stable. It has been carefully cleaned while preserving its authentic relic character. Measuring approximately 24 inches by 5 inches and is very rare to get such a large bit of Battle of Britain Messerschmitt 109 and that is recanisable part.The airframe structure comes with 2 A5 laminated information cards with pictures and diagrams.
The part is from German Messerschmitt Bf109E-7 work number 5930 which was shot down on 20th October 1940 over Kent during the battle of Britain.
The aircraft was flown by Feldwebel Bielmaier from 5 /JG52 he baled out and was captured unhurt he was taken prisoner of war and sent to Canada. The Messerschmitt was shot down by RAF Spitfires over West Malling near Maidstone in Kent. It crashed into Mereworth Woods near Paddock Wood in Kent at 2.15 pm on 20th October 1940.
