This is a totally rare taken at the time souvenir a section of airframe fabric.The airframe fabric section still with its original gray colour and the original black paintwork remains clear to see so its from the cockpit area or part of the insignia from the fuselage of tail fin.The section is in very solid condition and has been carefully cleaned ripped off the aircraft after it crashed and is still perfect for display or any collection not braking up or falling apart and is 6 inches long by 4 inches wide.The section comes from a Sopwith Camel which crashed sometime in late 1917 or 1918 near the old British Aerodrome at Bertangles near Amiens on the Somme battlefield of 1915-1918.The section has been in a private collection on the Somme battlefield for many years now available for the first time as some items from the collection are being sold.The section comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with map
The aerodrome at Bertangles was in use by the Royal flying Corps from 1915 and one of the main airfields during the battle of the Somme in 1916 and is where Major Lanoe Hawker started from, when he flew his last mission and met the German ace Manfred von Richthofen. And this was the aerodrome von Richthofen's aircraft was brought to, when he was shot down and killed in 1918. Below the aerodrome at Bertangles with aircraft of 24 squadron on the runway.
