Totally rare pilots control from the cockpit of Russian il-2 Sturmovik ground attack aircraft of the 5th Guards Army which was shot down and crashed in the area of the Psel River, south of Kursk 1943
This is a totally rare item from the most famous of Russian aircraft. This is the Pilots control column from the cockpit this column which is missing its leather cover it is aluminium and steel made still with some original green paintwork remains. The column is undamaged by the impact of the crash apart from some rust damage and pitting from being buried it is in nice clean condition and is perfect for display or any collection and is 19 inches long and 5 inches wide. The control column was recovered from the cockpit of Russian il-2 Sturmovik ground attack aircraft of the 5th Guards Army which was shot down and crashed in the area of the Psel River, south of Kursk on the Voronezh front. This area was defended by them against the German 2nd SS Panzer corps during the battle part of Operation Citadel the German Kursk offensive in July-August 1943 in Russia. The part comes with 3xA5 laminated information cards with pictures.

The front was established at the end of June 1942 when the German 6th Army reached Voronezh during the early stages of Operation Blau. The Voronezh Front participated in the battle of Voronezh, the defensive operations on the approaches to Stalingrad, and in the December 1942, the follow-on to the encirclement of German 6th Army at Stalingrad. In the battle of Kursk in July- August 1943, the front operated on the southern shoulder, during which it commanded the Battle of Prokhorovka itself on the Soviet side.
