This is a massive part to get from a crash site of a German bomber shot down later in the war with a very famous witness and very rare recognisable part. The huge part is totally rare original yellow painted fuselage insignia section with very clear to see paintwork remains.
The part is a lot of sections still riveted together it is aluminium made the whole part has some original gray/green paintwork remains. The part has been very well cleaned it still has a lot of original colours this is a very large part at 27 inches long by 5 inches wide and is a very rare one for display or any collection. The part comes from German Messerschmitt ME 410A of 16/KG2 which was on night intruder raid on London at 12.45pm on the 23rd February 1944 when it was shot down by anti-aircraft fire from battery S7 in Slough it crashed into the hillside and field then exploded near Andridge Farm in Radnage, Buckinghamshire in England. The part comes with 3 x A5 laminated information sheets with pictures also diagrams and its famous witness.
A.I.(k) Report states that the aircraft was observed approaching from the North at a low altitude. The engines were heard to rev up, and the aircraft suddenly dived into the ground and caught fire. There was no explosion, but the wreckage was spread over a wide area.
The crew Leutnant Felix Muller and gefreiter Karl Heinz Borowski were both killed. The aircraft impacted into a hillside narrowly missing the farmhouse roof. The farmhouse was being occupied at that time by a young Oliver Reed who would go on to be the famous actor and his nanny. He visited the crash site the following day and was quite traumatised by what he saw and in later life wrote about the crash in his autobiography. The crash site was excavated in October and November 1971 and again in the early 1990’s.
