Very rare to get from the battlefield in such nice condition.

The magazine used by aircraft of the Royal Flying corps recovered from a pond in a woodland area on the site on the old Aerodrome at Bertangles near Amiens on the Somme battlefield of 1915-1918. This comes with 4 X A5 laminated information cards with pictures and a map and is the first time i have ever had one of these from the battlefield

Many claim that the Lewis is the first machine gun to be fired from an aircraft. The Lewis gun utilised two different magazine types, one holding 47 and the other 97 rounds for aircraft use. The 97 round drum magazine was considered too heavy for infantry.
