RARE German SS dagger (SS-Ehrendolch or SS Honour Dagger) recovered in the 1990’s while a trench was being dug on the grounds of the old Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) barracks in Berlin
This is a German SS dagger (SS-Ehrendolch or SS Honour Dagger). A very rare item, which I have never had before, recovered from the battlefield.
The dagger is missing its handle, and the blade is rusted into the scabbard. It still has some maker markings visible. As you can see, the item is in relic condition and rusty. It is still a solid piece which is not breaking up or falling apart. It does however need to be handled with care. The item is ideal for display and should not be overly handled.
Overall the item is in reasonable condition retaining a lot of its original colour around the handle. The dagger has been lightly cleaned and is perfect for display. This is a rare addition for a collection.
This knife was recovered in the 1990’s while a trench was being dug laying cables on the grounds of the old Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) barracks in Berlin-Lichterfelde.
The relic comes with 3 x A5 laminated information cards.
The Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) barracks in Berlin-Lichterfelde were a significant Nazi-era military base, later used by the U.S. Army as Andrews Barracks, and today are being converted into apartments and shops, retaining some historical significance while shifting to civilian use in Berlin's Lichterfelde district.
The barracks in the Finckensteinallee were originally built for the Prussian army and were later used by the Hitler’s bodyguard unit Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler. Between 1945 and 1994, the barracks were used by the US Army. Nowadays, it is occupied by the German Federal Archives.
