This is a glass-framed group of aluminium airframe sections three of them and a section of cockpit perspex.The parts still retain most of there original paintwork and colours one is yellow painted from one of the aircraft’s roundel insignia the other is black underbelly and green camouflage. The parts have ripped,bent and smashed by the impact of the crash but are in nice solid condition and have been carefully cleaned. They are presented in a glass-fronted box frame, complete with all aircraft information and numerous photographs, making it perfect for display or any collection. The frame measures 12 inches by 12 inches in size.The parts come from British RAF short Stirling bomber EF457 of 620 Squadron which was shot down on the night of the 17th- 18th August 1943 on a raid on rocket facility at Peenemünde in Germany.
The crew S/L A D Lambert DFC,Sgt V L Enders,Sgt E W Evans,Sgt R G Cooper,Sgt C C Leeming all were taken prisoner of war and F/O L G Kennett, Sgt D J Carrington and Sgt R E Thompson were all killed.
This raid was the opening attack of the British Operation Crossbow, the Operation Hydra air-raid attacked the HVP's "Sleeping & Living Quarters" (to specifically target scientists), then the "Factory Workshops", and finally the "Experimental Station on that night of the 18th August major damage was done to the site. The plane was shot down in a dual effort by flak and a night-fighter and crashed near Wusterhausen, 15km ENE of Greifswald not far from Peenemunde in Germany.
