Russian screw plug base in 76.2mm hollow charge projectile fired by T34/76 tank recovered on the Seelow Heights April 1945
This is a Russian screw plug base from a 76.2mm hollow charge projectile fired by a T-34/76 tank. It is a complete plug that could still be screwed back into the shell if desired. The piece retains much of its original paint, is entirely empty and inert, and remains in excellent condition for a battlefield-recovered relic. While it shows minor marks from being buried, it has been carefully cleaned and is now perfect for display or as part of any collection.
The plug was recovered from the battlefield at the Seelow Heights in 1945 the opening battle for Berlin. A fine and authentic relic from a famous Russian tank gun projectile.
The Battle of the Seelow Heights formed part of the Seelow Berlin Offensive Operation (16 April-2 May 1945). This was one of the final large-scale assaults against entrenched German positions during the Second World War. Fought over three days (16-19 April 1945), nearly one million Soviet troops of the 1st Belorussian Front, including 78,556 soldiers of the Polish 1st Army under Marshal Georgi Zhukov, launched their attack on the position known as the Gates of Berlin. They were opposed by approximately 110,000 men of the German 9th Army, commanded by General Theodor Busse, as part of Army Group Vistula.
Although the Seelow Heights witnessed some of the fiercest fighting, it was only one of several crossing points along the Oder and Neisse rivers used by the Soviets. This battle is often considered part of the larger Battle of the Oder Neisse, which itself marked the opening phase of the Battle of Berlin. The eventual outcome was the encirclement of the German 9th Army and the subsequent Battle of Halbe.
