This is a lovely condition recanisable part from the iconic RAF Spitfire this one was shot down in the Battle of Britain and crashed into the English channel and there is very little about from this aircraft,
The aluminium airframe fuselarge structure part from the cockpit area of the aircraft the part retains lots of its original finish and green camouflage paintwork which still reatins most of its original colours but shows damage consistent with crash impact, including tearing and bending. Despite this, it remains solid, has been carefully cleaned, and is well suited for display or inclusion in a collection. It measures approximately 6 half inches long by 4 inches wide.The part comes from RAF Spitfire R6642,pilot J.W Lund of 92 squadron shot down on the 15th October 1940,crashed nto the sea off Bee Ness Jetty,battle of Britain.
The spitfire was shot down by Messerschmitt 109s and crashed into the sea off Bee Ness Jetty, Kent Reach.Pilot officer Lund was rescued from the Medway by HMS Nysan.Pilot officer .Lund was killed on 2nd October 1941 as a Flight Lieutenant with 92 Squadron, aged 22. He was leader of a section of three Spitfires which had carried out a low-level Rhubarb operation over Northern France.
Returning across the Channel, they were attacked by Fw190s from JG2 and all three were shot down, Lund's Spitfire Vb W3459 going down in flames.
The item comes with two A5 laminated information cards, including images of the part and diagrams showing where the part went onto the aircraft.
