This is a lovely reganisable bit of famous Lancaster bomber which is a very rare pilots rudder/brake pedal component part of the pedal assembly from the cockpit floor in front of the pilots seats which they had their feet on during flight.
This is a lovely condition solid heavy mag allow made part with some of its maker markings and part numbers partly clear to see and read on one side the part still has its lovely original colour with some discolour. also with dirt still attachedThe part is not to badly damaged by the impact of the crash and has been very nicely cleaned and is in perfect condition for display or any collection and is a nice size part at 4 inches long by 3 half inches wide. The part comes with 3×A5 laminated information cards with many pictures including a picture of the pedals in place .The part comes from RAF Lancaster bomber R5679 of 61 Squadron coded QR-O was lost on the night of 24/25 September 1942 while engaged on dropping magnetic mines in the shipping lanes of the Frisian Islands and the Baltic.
The bomber was Intercepted and shot down by Lt. Karl-Heinz Brandes (7./NJG2) at 02:13 on September 25 1942 and crashed near Grønhøj, Denmark. There were 23 sorties flown that night, and this was the only aircraft lost.
The whole crew perished in the crash. They were:

Sgt.J.A.Duffield (RCAF)
Sgt.A.M.Cormack
Sgt.E.Dyson
Sgt.W.Y.Emerslund (RCAF)

They are all buried in the Frederikshavn Cemetery, Denmark.The Lancaster came down at 02.00hrs at Gronhoj, 15kms SW of Viberg. The aircraft exploded on impact.
In 1942, the 7th Staffel of Nachtjagdgeschwader 2 (7./NJG 2) was primarily operating the Junkers Ju 88 C-6b night fighter, which was a modified version of the Ju 88A-4 bomber.
