This is a rare to find German soldiers M1915/Early 1916 pattern gas mask tin.The M1915/Early 1916 Pattern (Short Canister): The earliest metal tins were short, squat cylindrical containers designed for the rubberised cloth Gummimaske. They had a simple press-fit lid and were often kept inside canvas carrier bags alongside separate small cans for spare filters

This gas mask tin in lovely condition for a semi relic it is pretty much undamaged other then a few dents and knocks from use with no holes. The tin has some of its original black paintwork remaining on the outside and on the inside it has some of it’s original colour. The tin which the lid still opens and closes the tin is very solid it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection.The gas mask tin was found in a barn on a Farm in the village of Miraumont Somme battlefield the front line of late 1916 to early 1917. The tin comes with A5 laminated information card.

Miraumont was the German Front line from around September 1916 until it was occupied by British Troops at the end of February 1917 and lost on the 25th March 1918.It was then retaken by the British on the following 24th August 1918.There was also a large German battery at Miraumont during the fighting in 1916.
