This is a rare recognizable part from a Battle of Britain Messerschmitt 109.This is a counterweight from the leading edge of an aileron or elevator which is a steel made solid heavy part..The part is rusty but still with lots of original blue camouflage paintwork from the underside or underbelly with lots of original colour as well it is in nice solid condition not damaged by the impact crash because it is solid steel it is in relic but solid condition and has been nicely cleaned perfect for display or any collection and is 5 inches long by 4 inches wide in size. The part comes from German Messerschmitt bf 109E-1 work number 6281 of 7/JG51 was on free-lance fighter sweep over Sussex. It was intercepted and shot down by RAF Hurricanes of 501 squadron on the 25th October 1940 during the Battle of Britain.The part comes with 3x A5 laminated information card with pictures and crash site pictures as well.
The Messerschmitt 109 was shot down by RAF Hurricane flown by Flight Lieutenant E.Holden and Sergeant R.J.K Gent both of 501 squadron. The Messerschmitt was shot down crashed into a drainage ditch on Lidham Hill Farm in Guestling near Rye Harbour in Sussex. The pilot Feldwebel W.Koslowski baled out and was captured severely burned and taken to hospital and taken pow.
