Rare British Lee Enfield 1907 pattern mark 3 rifle that was recovered from Bernafay wood in 2014.This was a battle in the opening days of the July 1916 Somme attack.

This is a nice relic rare British Lee Enfield 1907 pattern mark 3 rifle which is not complete as you can see from the pictures with some of its metal work still there but is missing all its wood. The barrel is only slightly bent, the breach is empty of all ammunition and inert with its bolt still in place. The rifle is deactivated by condition obviously plain to see also the barrel is blocked in side and bent and has no moving parts all rusted solid. The rifle has been very nicely cleaned it is in very solid condition and a nice one for the collection perfect for display. The rifle was recovered from Bernafay wood in 2014.This was a battle in the opening days of the July 1916 Somme attack. The rifle comes with 2 X A5 laminated information cards with pictures and map.

Bernafay Wood, located near Montauban village which was captured by the 9th Scottish Division on 3-4 July 1916 during the opening days of the Somme offensive. A dressing station was established there soon after its capture in early July and was in operation until October. The wood was lost by the British in the German spring offensive of 1918, with the wood captured by the Germans in March–April 1918. However, it was retaken on the 27 August 1918 again by the same soldiers of the 9th Scottish Division who captured it 2 years earlier.
