This is an exceptionally rare find from the cockpit of a German Arado Ar 232 Tausendfler cargo/transport aircraft. It is a pilot’s direction indicator (used for course control) switch, which remains largely complete despite some damage to the outer casing. The gauge is clearly maker-marked on the front, featuring the original part number, black paintwork, and much of its original colouring still visible.

Presented in a solid, semi-relic condition, this piece shows only minor damage from the crash. Measuring approximately 6 inches in length, it is a unique and desirable artefact for any collector and is perfect for display.

This particular part originates from Arado Ar 232 aircraft number 0100012, assigned to Wettererkundungsstaffel Wekusta 5 (tail code TC+EG), which tragically crashed shortly after take-off in poor weather conditions on 26th August 1943.

The aircraft went down in Finnmark, northern Norway, after departing from Banak Airfield.

All seven onboard three crew members and four ground personnel passengers were killed in the crash:

Oberleutnant Rudolf Schtze

Oberfeldwebel Josef Ullitzka

Oberfeldwebel Roman Symma

Obgefreiter Ulrich Vogt

Obgefreiter Rudolf Graupner

Obgefreiter Albert Vorthmann

Obgefreiter Heinz Wegener

All are now buried at Botn Cemetery, Rognan, Norway

This item includes three A5 laminated information cards, featuring details of the crash site and current photographs of the area. The part comes from a long-held private collection, with pieces originally recovered many years ago by a dedicated enthusiast who personally visited crash sites, uncovering surface relics or excavated wrecks. These parts are now being offered to the public for the first time.
