This is a set of original German Hammerstollen track "ice teeth" from a Panzer III or Panzer IV tank. These steel track extensions were fitted to the tank's tracks to improve traction when operating in snow, ice, and frozen ground, providing greater grip during harsh winter conditions on the Eastern Front.
These examples were recovered from the battlefield outside Stalingrad, where the 13th Panzer Division took part in Operation Winter Storm, the German offensive launched in December 1942 in an attempt to break through to the encircled Sixth Army.
The Hammerstollen have been carefully cleaned and preserved and remain in good, solid condition, displaying the authentic wear expected from wartime service. They make excellent display pieces and are ideal for any collection relating to German armour, the Eastern Front, or the Battle of Stalingrad.
These are scarce and historically significant relics from one of the most decisive campaigns of the Second World War, making them an excellent addition to any military history collection.
