This is a lovely relic and very rare cut down fighting knife of a quill handle French M1886 pattern bayonet which has its nice brass handle which is still its lovely shiny colour. The bayonet blade has been cut down with its blade sharpened by the soldier themselves used for close quarter fighting. It is a very nice relic in solid condition, which has been overpainted black for display, the handle is lovely condition it has been nicely cleaned and is perfect for display and a very rare one for any collection as there were troop made not done at factories. The bayonet was recovered from the fort Douaumont area on the 1914- 1918 battlefield in Verdun. The bayonet comes with a pair of A5 laminated information cards with many pictures and map.
