This is a bakerite made and maker marked OPEL reduction gear from one of the onboard systems possibly flaps or rudder or even part of a cockpit control of some sort the part is dated 1941 all clear to see.
The part has been very well used with a lot wear it still retains all of its original colour it does not have to much damage from the crash impact it still remains solid, it has been carefully cleaned, and is well suited for display or inclusion in a collection. It measures 6 inches wide.
The part comes from German nightfighter Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-4 number 180532 of Unit: 7. Staffel, Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 which crashed at Hörnsheim, Hüttenberg in Hessen in Germany on 20th October 1944 while intercepting RAF Lancasters.This was a major RAF Bomber Command raid (targeting Stuttgart and Nuremberg) by hundreds of Lancasters and Mosquitos.
All three crewmen perished. The pilot was Leutnant Cuno Janssen, along with Radio Operator Unteroffizier Heinrich Kühling, and Bordschütze Obergefreite Rudolf Strüwer.
The item comes with two A5 laminated information cards, including pictures and diagram also a map of the crashsite and a picture of the part with closeup photos.
