Lovely condition German pre-war Ersatz style bayonet made late war used by a German SS Nordland or 16th Army soldier, recovered from an old German bunker in Finland 1944.

This is a very unusual find German pre-war Ersatz style bayonet converted or made late war for speed of manufacture during the last years of the war.

The bayonet is complete but no maker markings not sure it ever had any giving its rough manufacture The bayonet still has a lot of original colour is only very lightly rusty and pitted in places and in is in lovely semi- relic condition with its lovely original steel colour it has been very well cleaned it is perfect for display or a nice bit for any collection and very rare to get this type of german bayonet from the battlefield as it is 17 inches long. The bayonet was recovered from an old German bunker in Finland on the Northern side of the battlefield around Leningrad during its liberation of 1944.The bayonet comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with map

In early 1944 the SS Nordland division, along with the rest of the III SS Panzer Corps arrived at the front near Leningrad and was put into action against the Soviet Red Army attacks aimed at breaking the German encirclement of the city. The Red Army forced Nordland to withdraw to Oranienbaum. On 14 January 1944, the Soviets succeeded in collapsing the German front. The Wehrmacht 16th Army was deployed with Army group North during operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. It was subsequently involved in the Siege of Leningrad. The Soviets relieved Leningrad in January 1944.
