This is a very large aluminium airframe structural fuselage frame section which is a few parts still riveted together it still retains lots of its original finish red undercoat primer and dark green paintwork which still reatins most of its original colours but shows damage consistent with crash impact, including tearing and bending. Despite this, it remains solid, has been carefully cleaned, and is well suited for display or inclusion in a collection. It measures approximately 11 inches long by 3 inches wide.
The part comes from German nightfighter Messerschmitt Bf 110 G-4 number 180532 of Unit: 7. Staffel, Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 which crashed at Hörnsheim, Hüttenberg in Hessen in Germany on 20th October 1944 while intercepting RAF Lancasters.This was a major RAF Bomber Command raid (targeting Stuttgart and Nuremberg) by hundreds of Lancasters and Mosquitos.
All three crewmen perished. The pilot was Leutnant Cuno Janssen, along with Radio Operator Unteroffizier Heinrich Kühling, and Bordschütze Obergefreite Rudolf Strüwer.
