This is a group of fired 50 caliber machine gun bullet cases used in action defending the bomber from enemy fighters. The cases are brass made and are in nice relic but solid condition. They have some of there markings including dated 1941-1943 on the bottom that can be seen. The shell cases dont have much of there original colours that can be seen they have turned green. They are not complete mostly bottom sections but they still very nice overall condition and are not breaking up or falling apart. They have been very well cleaned and are perfect to display or a nice one for any collection.The cases come with 2xA5 laminated information cards with pictures.

The cases were recovered from inside B17 flying fortress bomber number 42-31528 of 305th Bomber Group of 365th Bomber Squadron crashed 31st December 1943 at Ashridge in Hertfordshire in England on its return with severe battle damage after raid on Bordeaux-Merignac.

The raid details were 200 of 236 B-17 bombers and 57 of 60 B-24 bombers hit the Bordeaux-Merignac, Cognac-Chateaubernard and Landes Bussac Airfields at 1211-1315 hours on 31st August 1943 they claim 17-13-27 Luftwaffe aircraft; 18 B-17 bombers and 5 B-24 bombers are lost, 8 B-17 bombers and 2 B-24 bombers are damaged beyond repair and 103 B-17 bombers and 5 B-24 bombers are damaged; casualties are 9 Killed in action, 36 Wounded in action and 231 Missing in action.
