This is a lovely condition part from a Battle of Britain Spitfire which is a Lucas C45 electrical generator[dynamo] from inside the Merlin engine. This small generator a has been well cleaned with its clear to see maker markings and part number and is 4 half inches long by 2 half inches wide in size. The part still retains most of its original steel colour with only a very light amount of surface rust in places and its internal shaft still its lovely original colours and all its wiring in place. The part does not have much damage from the impact of the crash but was well protected by the engine and lovely condition part is very solid not braking up at all and has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. This is a nice part and a rare one for the collection the engine part comes with 2 X A5 laminated information cards with picture of the pilot.
The generator is from British RAF Spitfire number N3060 flown by Pilot Officer P.J.C King of 66 Squadron. The Spitfire was shot down by German Messerschmitt bf109 in a dogfight over the Medway area of Kent at 4.00pm on the 5th September 1940 during the Battle of Britain. This is a nice engine part that comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with pictures.
The Spitfire crashed off Hoo Marina in the Thames Estuary by Pilot Officer P.J.C King baled out but the parachute failed to open and he was killed. Some of the spitfire was recovered at the time of the crash the rest of it was recovered in the 1980’s.
