This is a large internal engine heavy cog or part of inside Daimler-Benz DB601 engine from a Messerschmitt 110 shot down during the Battle of Britain.

This part is in excellent condition well cleaned and preserved retaining some of its original black paintwork and original colour. Measuring 10 inches wide, it stands well for display and makes a rare and striking addition to any collection.

The part comes from a Messerschmitt Bf 110 of 5./ZG2, which was shot down on 16th August 1940 during an escort sortie over Eastbourne, Surrey. The aircraft had been severely damaged in combat with RAF fighters of No. 1 Squadron, piloted by Flying Officer H.N.E. Salmon. At approximately 5:30 pm, the Bf 110 crashed into the grounds of Aldro School in Eastbourne.

Tragically, both crew members were lost:
Oberleutnant Ernst Hollekamp attempted to bail out but was too low, crashing into the roof of a house on Gaudick Road. He was killed instantly. He was posthumously promoted to Hauptmann, which is how his rank now appears in German records.

Feldwebel Rudolf Schwurk, the gunner, bailed out but landed in the sea and drowned. His body later washed ashore at Eastbourne on 4th September 1940.
This well-preserved engine case section, from the heart of the DB601 engine, represents a rare opportunity to own an authentic relic from the famous Battle of Britain.
