This is a unusual find from one of the crewman’s type Q-1A heated suits it is a rheostat part of the actual heater unit.
The part still has some of its electrical wiring still attached it still has most of its original colours some of its maker markings including made in Chicago all very clear to see. It is not to badly damaged by the impact of the crash still with all of its original colours it is still in lovely condition and is a very rare to find part in this good a condition which is perfect for display or any collection and is 4 inches long and 1 half inches wide. The Rheostat was used by one of the crewman as it recovered from inside of American B17G Flying Fortress 43-37516 'Tondalayo', matt black finished special operations aircraft in 406th Night Leaflet Squadron which crashed 4th March 1945
The part comes from American B17G Flying Fortress 43-37516 'Tondalayo' was an overall matt black finished special operations aircraft attached to the 406th Night Leaflet Squadron based at Cheddington. This B17 bomber was the personal aircraft of the unit's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Aber and being retained by him when the squadron converted to B-24 Liberators.Lieutenant Colonel Aber was on his 51st mission when he was shot down on the 4th March 1945 by friendly fire. The part comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with pictures and a map and diagram.
