This is an authentic, glass-framed compass mount with its lovely maker label still attached nice and readable which has come from the cockpit of the aircraft.
The aluminium panel was torn away by the impact of the crash but remains in good, solid condition. It has been carefully cleaned while preserving its original character and wartime patina.
The relic is presented in a glass-fronted box frame, complete with aircraft information also crash site pictures and diagram, making it an excellent display piece for any aviation or Second World War collection. The frame measures approximately 13 inches by 13 inches.
The part is German JU87 stuka dive bomber work number 4528 of 2./I./StG1 which crashed at Skamdalen, Beisfjord Nordland near Narvik. The dive bomber was shot down by RAF Gladiator on the 2nd June 1940 during the German invasion of Norway.
The parts have come from a private collection which the items were collected many years ago directly from the crash sites he visited and found including surface finds or some aircraft that were dug out and recovered all these parts now available for the first time.
The dive bomber was attacked and shot down by RAF Gladiators from 263 Squadron. After a bombing raid on Narvik. The Stuka, with its port under wing tank on fire, crashed soon after in a valley at Beisfjord. RAF pilots Alvin Williams(N5905) and Herbert H Kitchener shared this victory. The bodies of Staffelkapitän Böhne and his gunner were recovered later by the Germans.
