This is a German battle-damaged MG 34/42 single ammunition tin in relic condition. It is heavily rusted all over, with only a few small rust holes. The lock is broken, the tin is bent, and the lid does not close properly. The handle is present but rusted solid. One side panel shows a clear impact mark. There is no visible paintwork remaining.
This is an unusual type of tin�it is a World War I style tin that was reused by the Wehrmacht. It has been carefully cleaned and remains solid, not falling apart, making it a very nice example of a battlefield-recovered MG ammunition tin.
The tin was recovered from a field near Trun, believed to have been a pit dug by the Allies where large amounts of German equipment were discarded and buried after the Battle of the Falaise Pocket, Normandy, France in 1944. A rare and authentic relic from the famous Normandy battlefield.
