This is a German 2cm ammunition crate used for 80 rounds of 20mm anti-aircraft ammunition, fired by for Flak 30/38 anti-aircraft gun which is a pre war made in 1938 crate and only packed and used once with the inside label with a last pack date of the 12th October 1938 and used during the invasion of Norway. The crate is in very nice condition, with the wood still retaining most of its original dark green paintwork, though it shows some dirt, discoloration, and minor damage from use. The original tin liner is still in place, confirming it as the airtight version this does have some rust and damage it looks like the ammunition was stored in there for many years. The crate remains solid, not breaking up or falling apart. It has experienced some very light woodworm, but this has been treated, and the box is well preserved. A small maker mark is present on the side with 1938 date of make also with a paper label on the front and the crate is 26 inches long and 10 inches wide. Both hinges are intact and in good condition; the locks do not work as the crate has slightly miss shaped putting them out of line, though the lid opens and closes without issue. The metal carry handles are also present. This is a fine example of this unusual ammunition crate which is perfect for display or any collection. The Wehrmacht used crate was found in Narvik used during the battles in April-June 1940 during the German invasion and occupation of Norway 1940-1945. The crate comes with 2 x A5 laminated information cards.
