This is a very well used German Luftwaffe wooden crate which held 50, SD1 cluster Aerial Bombs, which has a last packed date of 4th November 1944 and this crate has been used many times before with many packing labels underneath the top one. The crate is not in the best of condition, with the wood still retaining most of its original light brown colour with some of its green camouflage paintwork still on it, though it shows some dirt, discoloration, and some damage. It has experienced a lot of woodworm, but this has been treated, and the box is nice condition considering how many times it was used and the fact it has been recovered as well. The crate has some faint black ink stamp markings outside but also has paper label which the markings can be seen. Both hinges are intact and in good condition both the locks still work fine and the lid opens and closes without issue it slides in and out of the top brackets perfectly well. One of the rope handles is also present and one missing the crate is 27 inches long by 14 inches wide. Inside, there is the mass of paper labels on the lid there are some knocks and marks and some damage from use This is a solid example of this very unusual ammunition crate which is perfect for display or any collection. The crate comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards.
The box has been used many times with previous labels as well one dated August 1943. The crate was recovered from the dump site on the old Luftwaffe Trier air base which was in use from 1936 until 1945.
