Very rare German wooden airtight ammunition crate Luftdichter Patronenkasten, It held 1250, 2cm fuses Kpf.Z.Zerl fired by 2cm Flak 30,38 anti-aircraft gun with maker label dated 1945 found in Berlin
This is a very rare find which is a totally rare 1945 dated German wooden airtight ammunition crate which is a Luftdichter Patronenkasten which translates directly to Airtight Cartridge Box. It held 1250, 2cm fuses Kpf.Z.Zerl fired by 2cm Flak 30, Flak 38 and Flakvierling 38 anti-aircraft gun with very late war label. The crate is in very nice condition, with the wood still retaining most of its original brown stain, though it shows some dirt, discoloration, and minor damage. The original tin liner is still in place, confirming it as the airtight version. The crate remains solid, not breaking up or falling apart. It has no woodworm and the box is well preserved with the remains of paper labels on the outside as well also it is 19 inches by 15 inches in size. It has a small maker mark is present on the side which is a 1940 made box and on the lid is the original black stamped markings.Both hinges are intact and in good condition; both locks do not work but the lid opens and closes without issue. The metal carry handles are also present. Inside is the fantastic condition paper label with all its markings clear to see and with its last packing date of 28th February 1945 there are some knocks and marks from use, but nothing significant. This is a fine example of this unusual ammunition crate which is perfect for display or any collection.
The crate was found on a flea market near the Berlin railway station in 2021 and would have been used during the Battle of Berlin in April 1945 or in the fighting of the last days of the war.The crate comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards.
