German wooden transit crate,maker marked for some sort of weapon part found in a barn on a Farm in the village of Miraumont on the Somme battlefield the front line of late 1916

This is a German wooden transit crate with original black stamped markings which states on the sides that it is for non-explosive ignitions. It is for some sort of weapon part but non-explosive possibly spare parts for a gun . The crate is in very nice condition, with the wood still retaining most of its original brown stain, though it shows some dirt, discoloration, and minor damage other then a chunk missing on the top edge. The crate is very solid, not breaking up or falling apart and has no woodworm it is a well preserved box it is 19 inches long by 12 inches wide in size. It is maker marked on both sides. The crate is missing its lid but with both its rope carry handles are still there. On the inside there are some knocks and marks from use, but nothing significant. This is a fine example of this unusual ammunition crate. which is perfect for display or any collection. The crate was found in a barn on a Farm in the village of Miraumont on the Somme battlefield the front line of late 1916 to early 1917. The box comes with A5 laminated information card.

Miraumont was the German Front line from around September 1916 until it was occupied by British Troops at the end of February 1917 and lost on the 25th March 1918 and then retaken the following 24th August 1918.There was also a large German battery at Miraumont during the fighting.A very nice and rare soldiers item recovered from the famous Somme battlefield of 1916-1918.
