This is a German wooden carry box for 2x shell cases for 15cm SIG 33 heavy infantry gun which would have been on the beech defence system of the Island.
The crate is in very nice condition with the wood still retaining most of its original brown stain and though it shows some dirt, discoloration, and minor damage also with a hole in the bottom. The crate remains solid, not breaking up or falling apart the box is fairly well preserved. Both hinges are intact and in good condition; the lock still works fine and has some of its green paintwork remains the lid opens and closes without issue. The metal carry handle is also present.some of its maker markings are faint to see and is perfect for display or any collection. The wooden crate originated from Jersey in the Channel Islands and dates back to leftovers from the German occupation between 1940 and 1945, being recovered from Jersey in the 1990s.
