This is a lovely complete German soldiers or officers cap badge cockade. The badge is complete with 2 of its back pins and is undamaged not broken and could go back on to a cap if you wanted to. The badge has been very nicely cleaned and retains most of its original colour with only a small amount of discolour. The badge is solid and in excellent condition for display or any collection, making it a rare and unusual battlefield find. The badge was recovered from an old German bunker in Finland on the Northern side of the battlefield around Leningrad during its liberation of 1944.The badage comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with map
In early 1944 the SS Nordland division, along with the rest of the III SS Panzer Corps arrived at the front near Leningrad and was put into action against the Soviet Red Army attacks aimed at breaking the German encirclement of the city. The Red Army forced Nordland to withdraw to Oranienbaum. On 14 January 1944, the Soviets succeeded in collapsing the German front. The Wehrmacht 16th Army was deployed with Army group North during operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. It was subsequently involved in the Siege of Leningrad. The Soviets relieved Leningrad in January 1944.
