This is a German soldiers or officers cap badge cockade. The badge is complete but missing its back pins. The roundel is dated and maker marked, though the markings are obscured by dirt. Some original paint remains on the badge. It has been very nicely cleaned and retains much of its original colour. The badge is solid and in excellent condition for display or any collection, making it a rare and unusual battlefield find.
The badge was recovered from the airfield at Voroponovo, which was within the 6th Army pocket during the Battle of Stalingrad, 1942-1943, in Russia.
