German soldiers M31 mess tin dated 1939 used by a soldier of Panzer-Division Müncheberg, recovered from old German Slip trench in the Werbig area on the Seelow heights, defended by them in April 1945
This is a nice condition recovered relic a German soldiers M31 mess tin which is maker marked and dated 1939.The tin is near complete missing its handle and has lots of original black paintwork remains it is in nice solid condition the aluminium still retains a lot of its original colours also the lid has slightly miss shaped but does still go on.The tin does still have some dirt on it and it is in relic but solid condition with only a couple of small holes but overall very good, nice condition for a recovered battlefield find nicely cleaned and perfect for display or any collection. The tin was used by a soldier of Panzer-Division Müncheberg it was recovered from an old German Slip trench in the Werbig area on the Seelow heights,the area defended by them in April 1945 during the battle.The tin comes with 2 x A5 laminated information cards with map.
Panzer-Division Müncheberg began forming on 8 March 1945 in Muncheberg, Germany. The majority of the division's staff and panzer troops were drawn from the 103rd Panzer brigade which had been dissolved three days before; the brigade's commander, Major General Werner Mummert, was placed in command of the division.
The Müncheberg Division received several Panther tank type G equipped with Sperber infrared (IR) systems, as well as a company of Panzergrenadiers equipped with Sperber IR systems. The division received several of the super heavy Jagdtigers, as well as several King Tigers, and the last five Tiger 1 to be sent to the front. By 12 March the division's strength was 6,836 men. On 18 March the men from an infantry battalion of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler division were used to bolster the division's strength.
