German soldiers blown apart steel helmet remains recovered from the Orel Salient during Operation Citadel in the German Kursk offensive

This is a German soldiers blown apart steel helmet which is the front rim and part of the helmet which has blown clean off. The helmet is in relic condition also with some battle damage impact cracks it is rusty but is a solid piece which is not breaking up or falling apart. it has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection.

The helmet was recovered from the Orel Salient, a heavily contested area during the opening battles of Operation Citadel in the German Kursk offensive and subsequent Russian counterattacks in July-August 1943. It comes with an A5 laminated information card.

On 12 July, the Soviets launched Operation Kutuzov, their counter-offensive on the Orel Salient, threatening the flank and rear of Models 9th Army. The 12th Panzer Division, previously held in reserve for the northern side of the Kursk salient, along with the 36th Motorized Infantry, 18th Panzer, and 20th Panzer Divisions, were redeployed to meet the Soviet spearheads.
