This is a rare German soldiers shovel head, the Klappspaten or folding shovel, one of the hardest patterns to find from the battlefield. The head, missing its wooden handle but still has its leather cover attached which is very rare to find.
The shovel is still as recovered condition with all the mud and dirt attached the leather still has its black colour and not braking up at all. The shovel is rusty but solid with no holes or real damage still with its black colour bakerite grip the shovel is in solid condition with no real original paintwork and colours. The shovel is perfect for display and a nice one for any collection.
This shovel was used by a soldier in one of the battles of Kiev in 1941-1943.The gas mask tin was recovered while Ukrainian soldiers were digging defensive positions around Kiev after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.The shovel comes with 2 x A5 laminated information cards with many pictures.
