This is a German Model 1898 pattern bayonet which is the very long bladed pattern bayonet. The bayonet which is relic but not rusty as it has been over painted in dark green paint it is still very solid and not breaking up. The blade has snapped and is not complete it is pitted but nothing to bad and missing its handle covers. The bayonet has been cleaned and painted after its recovery it is perfect for display or any collection It was recovered in woods near the village of Flers the first village captured using tanks on the Somme battlefield of September 1916.The bayonet comes with an A5 laminated information card.
