This is a lovely condition German M31 pattern canteen [waterbottle] dated 1935 on the neck made by Colsman & Co,Werdohl and dated on the top as well which is all very clear to see.
The bottle which still has a lot of its original aluminium colour with its screw top in place which unsrews and tightens up .The bottle has a large dent in the bottom and few small ones but nothing to bad and has only light discolour and dirt from being buried it is very solid and nice condition it has been well cleaned perfect for display or any collection. The bottle would have been used by a soldier in the SS Nordland Division or the 16th Army Wehrmacht. The canteen was recovered from inside one of their old bunkers in Finland on the Northern side of the battlefield around Leningrad during its liberation by Russians in 1944.The bottle comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with pictures and map.
In early 1944 the SS Nordland division, along with the rest of the III SS Panzer Corps arrived at the front near Leningrad and was put into action against the Soviet Red Army attacks aimed at breaking the German encirclement of the city. The Red Army forced Nordland to withdraw to Oranienbaum. On 14 January 1944, the Soviets succeeded in collapsing the German front.
