This is a rare German LKZ 16 shell percussion fuse used on gas shells for the 7.7cm field guns. The fuse has been fired and the nose section ripped off during the impact. It does have some damage from that with a section missing but still nice and solid. These heads are a rare find. The shell head is in very nice condition but does have no original markings but has been very well cleaned perfect for display . This fuse has been recovered from woods near the village of Flers on the Somme battlefield of late summer 1916. Flers was the first village captured using tanks in September 1916 during the battle of the Somme.
