Early zinc-lined wooden ammunition box for the 2cm Flak 30 & 38 anti-aircraft cannons.
Found at a flea market in Lorient, Brittany, France.
The box is in excellent condition, featuring a superb internal label and good surviving exterior markings. An exceptionally rare early-model example.
Several of these boxes can be seen in original wartime photographs, stacked on top of metal ammunition cases awaiting loading onto a U-boat.
The 2cm Flak C/30 was an early German naval anti-aircraft gun used aboard U-boats. It fired the powerful 20×138mm cartridge but was prone to frequent jamming, which led to its replacement by the more reliable 2cm Flak C/38.
