German HZ 14 Percussion 57.5 mm fuse-detonator, without delay, dated 1915 on high explosive or gas shell recovered from Bernafay wood on the July 1916 Somme battlefield.

This is a nice condition brass and steel made German HZ 14 Percussion 57.5 mm fuse-detonator, without delay on high explosive or gas shells fired by artillery guns from 9cm caliber up to 12cm caliber. The fuse has been fired does have some damage from being fired it has ripped clean of the shell during the impact.The shell fuse is in nice condition still with all of its original maker markings, numbers and dated 1915 fairly clear to see but very rare with all the brass outer case but is steel tipped and tip has gone rusty. The fuse is its dirty brass colour but still lovely condition and has been very well cleaned it is perfect for display or any collection. This fuse was recovered rom Bernafay wood on the July 1916 Somme battlefield. The fuse comes with A5 laminated information card.

Bernafay Wood, located near Montauban village, was captured by the 9th Scottish Division on 3-4 July 1916 during the opening days of the Somme offensive. A dressing station was established there soon after its capture in early July and was in operation until October. The wood was lost by the British in the German spring offensive of 1918, with the wood captured by the Germans in March–April 1918. However, it was retaken on the 27 August 1918 again by the same soldiers of the 9th Scottish Division.
