This item is part of a group recovered in 2022 from an old German ammunition bunker site, which was destroyed by the Russians after capture hence why many of the items are battle-damaged.

This is a near-complete German 4-shell metal transport container, dated 1941, with maker markings and stamped Waffen for the 5cm Pak 38 anti-tank gun. The container still has its lid attached, which locks securely. It retains a significant amount of original black paint, with some red paint and a stamped PAK 38. Measuring 25 inches long, this type of container is rare to find from the battlefield, as the thin metal often rots away.

The container shows some rust damage and a few holes, mostly along one side, and has bent and ripped slightly, but remains structurally complete with its carry handles. Inside, much of the wooden racking survives, though some pieces are loose. Despite rust and dirt, the box has been very well cleaned and remains solid, making it ideal for display or a collection. The item comes with two laminated A5 information cards featuring multiple photographs.

The container was recovered from a German ammunition storage bunker near Udria. The information cards include images of what these bunkers looked like, construction plans, and photographs of the recovery process in 2022. This ammunition site originally housed SS Artillery Regiment 11 of the 11th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland. It served as a rear-area storage area for Narva during the February-June 1944 battles, and later formed part of the German Panther Line from July to August 1944, in front of the Tannenberg Line on the northern coast of Estonia.

The Battle of Narva took place from February 2 to August 10, 1944. The battle was fought as the Soviet Union, under Joseph Stalin, aimed to capture Narva for an air base and as an entry point for the invasion of Prussia. German forces resisted fiercely, resulting in approximately 480,000 Soviet casualties compared to 68,000 German. German units involved included the III SS (Germanic) Panzer Corps, XXVI Army Corps, and XXXXIII Army Corps (Eastern sector, coastal defense). As of June 15, 1944, the 3rd (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps comprised the 103rd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion, the SS Nordland Division, the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian), and the 4th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Brigade (Netherlands).
