This is a German civilian-made small medical box, later re-used by the Wehrmacht. The box, featuring its original red cross markings on the front, is in fantastic condition. The wood retains its original brown colour, the hinge is intact and functional, and the lock remains in place (though it does not work). The lid opens and closes perfectly. The box shows minor wear and tear and evidence of past woodworm, which has been treated. It does not have a carry handle. The interior is in equally good condition, although the paper label on the back of the lid is missing. The box measures 14 inches by 12 inches.

It was recovered from the village of Bras, where on 13 January 1945 American forces were fighting the last German soldiers of the 26th Volksgrenadier Division near Bastogne at the end of the Battle of the Bulge. The box comes with an A5 laminated information card with a picture.

On 14 January 1945, a historic meeting took place in Bras when American forces linked up with British troops, driving the Germans back into Germany. Soldiers from the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Scotland met the U.S. 87th Infantry Division in Bras, effectively closing the Bulge.
