German battle damaged M42 steel helmet, mid 1943 on wards made with no decals which belonged to soldier in SS Nordland Division or the 16th Army Wehrmacht that was recovered around Leningrad,Finland
This is a lovely German battle damaged M42 steel helmet which was made from mid 1943 on wards as it has no decals that have ever been on it. The helmet is relic and with only light surface rust with no rust holes and has large amount battle damaged ripped and bent up with impact damage and cracks from an explosion on the front of the shell. The helmet is still very solid not braking up or falling apart with lots of original green paintwork remains very clear to see and some original colours and has been very well cleaned it has no liner but is maker stamped on the back rim and as is a rare one to get a battlefield recovered one later war made in such good condition.The helmet was recovered from an old German bunker in Finland on the Northern side of the battlefield around Leningrad during its liberation of 1944.The helmet comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with map
In early 1944 the SS Nordland division, along with the rest of the III SS Panzer Corps arrived at the front near Leningrad and was put into action against the Soviet Red Army attacks aimed at breaking the German encirclement of the city. The Red Army forced Nordland to withdraw to Oranienbaum. On 14 January 1944, the Soviets succeeded in collapsing the German front. The Wehrmacht 16th Army was deployed with Army group North during operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. It was subsequently involved in the Siege of Leningrad. The Soviets relieved Leningrad in January 1944.
