This is a very desirable and unusual recovered which is a German M40 steel helmet, retaining rare and clearly visible remnants of its Army eagle with a lot of its original black paintwork remain clearly visible this is very unsual to find it could even be a re used Police,fire or even Allgemeine SS helmet as everything was being re used by 1945.
The helmet has a lot of original black paintwork along with lots of original finish beneath the corrosion. The helmet has been carefully cleaned and presents very well. It is missing its liner, but remains an exceptional display piece due to the strong combination of paint and decal remnants—rare to find on a battlefield example in this condition.
The helmet remains in solid relic condition, with expected rusting throughout, heavier corrosion in some areas, and a number of small perforations, including a few larger holes in the top. Despite this, it is structurally stable and not breaking apart.The helmet comes with 2 x A5 laminated information cards, including a map for context.
The helmet was worn by a German soldier in the 6th SS panzer Army it was recovered from a German surrender site after the battle at the town of Veszprem near Lake Balaton in Hungary.This was where the main German attack was led by 6th SS Panzer Army on the 6th March 1945 during operation spring awakening.
