This is a very unusual find from the battlefield a pre war French soldiers M1852 pattern mess tin which were not issued in massive numbers compered to other French army mess tins.

The tin is near complete missing its lid it is in nice solid condition the steel still retains a lot of its original colours also has some surface rust and holes does still have some dirt attached to it from the silt on the bottom of the pond but overall has been well protected by the water and silt. The tin is in relic but solid condition overall very good, nice condition for a recovered battlefield find nicely cleaned and perfect for display or any collection.

The mess tin was recovered from where the British and French front lines meet in the area at Maricourt on the June-July 1916 Somme battlefield. The tin comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with map and many pictures.
