Fantastic rare German Luftwaffe soldiers M40 steel helmet with remains of its Normandy camouflage light green paintwork overpainted,Luftwaffe blue recovered in 2000’s from Hill 192 in Normandy 1944
This is a fantastic rare German Luftwaffe soldiers M40 steel helmet with remains of its Normandy camouflage light green paintwork which has over painted the Luftwaffe blue which is clear to see and possibly done by the soldier themselves .The helmet is in lovely relic condition which is only lightly rusty and a bit heaver rust in places and with only some light rust damage and small holes in it. The helmet is still very solid not braking up or falling apart with lots of its original green paintwork remains and some of the Luftwaffe blue all very clear to see and lots of original colours it has been very well cleaned it has no liner and is a very rare one to get from the battlefield with this amount of camouflage paintwork which is perfect for display or any collection.The helmet was recovered in the early 2000’s from a rubbish pit on Hill 192 near Saint Lo in Normandy the battle of early July 1944.The helmet comes with 3xA5 laminated information cards with map.
Hill 192 with its overwhelming views on Saint-Lô and the surrounding area, by the 10th July 1944 the Americans reached the bottom of the hill and the roads it overlooked. The hill is defended by the paratroopers of the German Fallschirmjäger Regiment 5 and the Fallschirmjäger Regiment 9 part of the 3rd Fallschirmjäger-Division also Self-propelled guns and German tanks of the Panzer Lehr Division.
