Fantastic condition engine piston and sleeve from inside Daimler-Benz DB601 engine on German Messerschmitt bf109 fighter number 4842 shot down 18th September 1940 near Canterbury

This is a very rare find from the battle of Britain it is a near complete engine piston in its sleeve from a German Messerschmitt 109. The piston is not complete the conrod has snapped off by the impact of the crash but still with its complete sleeve which are both in fantastic condition with many clear to see part numbers and maker markings.The piston is stuck inside the sleeve and has a bit of damage from the impact of the crash with a few dents and knocks but nothing to bad. The piston which has most of its original colours it has been very well cleaned it is in fantastic condition and is a very nice example of a piston and sleeve from this famous aircraft which is perfect for display or any collection and a rare one for the collection this heavy engine part comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with diagram and pictures.

The piston comes from German Messerschmitt bf109 fighter number 4842 which was engaged on a free-lance sortie over Canterbury in Kent and were intercepted by RAF spitfires on the 18th September 1940 during the Battle of Britain.

The Messerschmitt caught fire whilst under attack by flying officer R.W.Oxspring of No66 squadron who shot the aircraft down. The abandoned aircraft crashed in flames and burned out at Guilton, Ash, near Sandwich at 5.05pm on the 18th September 1940.The pilot Leutnant.E.Bodendiek who had baled out safely but was captured seriously wounded.
