Fantastic condition complete inspection panel with maker markings from German Heinkel he111 3./I./KG 26 Lufttorpedostaffel 1H+BH Work Number 4817 shot down on the 26th May 1942 and crashed in Norway
This is a fantastic condition and rare complete inspection panel that has most of its original green paintwork remains and clear to see maker markings which is its lovely shiny steel colour it still has very little corrosion from laying around on the mountain side for many years. The part is only lightly damaged by the impact of the crash slightly bent it is in nice solid condition the part has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection the part is 8 inches long and 5 half inches wide. The part comes from German Heinkel he111 3./I./KG 26 Lufttorpedostaffel 1H+BH Work Number 4817 shot down by Sea Hurricane on the 26th May 1942 and crashed in Norway.
The bomber was damaged by a Sea Hurricane from CAM*-ship "Empire Lawrence", after an attack on convoy PQ 16. The aircraft crashed into mountain Neitama on their return to Banak airfield. Convoy PQ 16consisted of 36 Merchant ships of which 8 were sunk in total. The attacks from the air on PQ 16 started late on 25th. May and continued until 30th. May. The Luftwaffe managed to sink six merchant ships during the attacks and lost 10 aircraft one of which was this one.
The part comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with crash site pictures of what it looks like now. The parts have come from a private collection which the items were collected many years ago directly from the crash sites he visited and found including surface finds or some aircraft that were dug out and recovered all these parts now available for the first time.
